Currah’s life has just changed forever. She’s hit the top of national best-seller lists for the controversial indigenous memoir Nobody’s Girl, literary agent extraordinaire Ronnie Lowe has offered her a contract for the sequel, and the media is in a frenzy. The world goes mad for her story and Currah goes mad for the attention. But when it emerges that the memoir was actually written by starry-eyed white male social worker Ant, the lies are torn from the book with astonishing consequences.

Will they crack under the pressure, rise to fulfil their destiny or will the weird birdman gobble them up?

This wickedly funny play by Scottish playwright Anthony Neilson is writing at its most exhilarating: a celebration of the magical, imaginative act of theatre.

It is 1881 and the night of Edward Gant’s final performance. Together with his three fellow performers, Gant will present an extraordinary spectacle of melancholia, madness and music through the retelling of a collection of adult fables and fairy-tales.

We meet Sanzonetta, the Pimple-Faced Girl, whose face erupts into pustules that bear beautiful pearls. We also meet Edgar, the heartbroken lover who travels the globe to cure his torment with the help of a fake fakir.

But while Gant and his company enact these bizarre and beautiful theatrical vignettes, it is clear that there is another mystery upon the stage: that of Mr Edward Gant himself…

Director Sarah Goodes‘ sparkling production uses extravagant costumes to create Gant’s wondrous worlds, co-designed byRenée Mulder and the Australian fashion house Romance Was Born. Think a mix of circus, glam rock, national costume, vaudeville, music hall, punk and high fashion.

Incredibly funny, deeply irreverent and strangely moving, Edward Gant is set to run riot.
