On Wednesday 18 January, Kristian Fletcher’s Weird Wednesdays - a monthly off-beat movie night – returns to Tribal Theatre, 346 George St Brisbane.

After rumours of the cinema closing over the last couple of months, Tribal Theatre - Brisbane’s oldest cinema – will remain open in 2012 for film festivals and special events.

Kristian Fletcher will continue his monthly movie nights throughout the year.

Since July 2010, Kristian Fletcher has filled the Weird Wednesdays bill with some of the strangest movies in the history of cinema and this January’s double feature is no exception…

Two of the most outrageous cult classics of all time are brought back to the big screen one rare retro screening…

The Who’s TOMMY (1975) (M) - 6.30pm

PLOT: A deaf, dumb and blind man goes on to become a pinball champion.
With an all-star cast including Ann-Margret, Roger Daltrey, Elton John, Tina Turner, Keith Moon, Jack Nicholson, Eric Clapton and Oliver Reed.
The Who’s iconic rock opera was brought to the screen by director Ken Russell. The late director (who passed away earlier this month) said Tommy was the favourite of his movies.
The sung-through plot has been fashioned into a 105-minute music video with striking visuals, star-studded cameos and fantastic music.

MYRA BRECKINRIDGE (1970) - 8.15pm

PLOT: Myron undergoes a sex-change operation before setting off on a mission to Hollywood to claim an inheritance.
Starring Raquel Welch, John Huston, Farrah Fawcett, Mae West, Tom Selleck and Rex Reed!
Slapped with an X rating when first released, this marked a dark period in the movie-output of 20th Century Fox and almost bankrupted the studio in 1970.
Based on the novel by Gore Vidal – this movie has to be seen to be believed!
Both controversial and very rare, few cinemas have dared to show it… until now!

PLOT: A dangerous mission reunites Stingray Sam with his long lost accomplice, The Quasar Kid. Follow these two space-convicts as they earn their freedom in exchange for the rescue of a young girl who is being held captive by the genetically designed figurehead of a very wealthy planet.

Following on from his cult success with The American Astronaut, Cory McAbee’s Stingray Sam is a space western musical featuring cabaret-comedy-rock band The Billy Nayer Show. Brisbane audiences can’t get enough of this quirky underground hit.
