Synopsis:
A stellar cast delivers the goods in Philippe Le Guay’s smash-hit upstairs/downstairs comedy, THE WOMEN ON THE 6TH FLOOR.
It’s Paris, 1962. The marvellous Fabrice Luchini (Potiche) stars as wealthy stockbroker Jean-Louis Jouvert, who lives a staid bourgeois existence with his perfectly-presented socialite wife (Sandrine Kiberlain). But when the family’s maid abandons them, into the residence comes Maria (Natalia Verbeke): young, hardworking, and – quelle horreur – Spanish! Remarkably, it doesn’t take long for the building to become enchanted by the new arrival; Maria rallies the friendship of the other servants on the sixth floor (fabulous turns contributed by two of Almodóvar’s favourite señoritas, Carmen Maura and Lola Dueñas) and soon, the balance of the household ruptures into wild, cross-cultural chaos…
Directed with verve and charm by the talented Le Guay, THE WOMEN ON THE 6TH FLOOR is a warm-hearted delight, in any language. Luchini and Kiberlain are terrific as the austere couple brought to life and then – potentially – breaking point, when Jean-Louis literally discovers a room of his own.
After premiering at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival to a standing ovation, THE WOMEN ON THE 6TH FLOOR became a massive hit at the French box office earlier this year – fuelled by enthusiastic word of mouth the film achieved over 2.5 million admissions. Now it’s Australia’s turn!

By the looks of that trailer, putting up with the bosses wife would be a pain.
Changing bed sheets & scrubbing the toilet bowls! Eeeww!
Just being subservient would be an absolute pain!
Having to be at someone’s beck and call. Answerable to their every whim.
Having to clean up after grown adults
having been a cleaner toilets are the pits.
Cleaning bed sheets, with bodily fluids on them! – Gross!!!
changing the sheets! come on you know its yukky lopl
Witnessing shenanigans and not being allowed to say a word…
Removing hair from the shower or bath drain. There’s something disturbingly filthy about mysterious hair left behind… particularly if you stumble across some curly ones. Nothing could be worse than getting involved with someone else’s pubes.
Just being a servant would be bad… But for the worst take I would have to say remaining mute -not having a voice or an opinion, and scrubbing the bathrooms – bath-tub, toilets. Anything to do with the bathroom.
the list is never ending….cleaning, cooking, gardening, washing….ironing and if that’s not enough, being expected to work like a robot without an opinion!
I am a housekeeper in aged care and while it’s far from glamorous and there are lots of ‘icky’ moments, the ‘oldies’ are fantastic, not so good when a bout of gastro goes through the place tho’.
