A girls indoor soccer team warms up. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigate big questions and wage tiny battles with all the vigour of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals.

After the fever pitch excitement of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, our team is fangin’ to cram that same fierceness and exhilaration to explode it against the walls of our black box theatre.

SYNOPSIS:

SHANGHAI, CHINA. 1934. Beneath the feet of humans, a film noir world of bug detectives and gangsters coexists. INSPECTOR SUN —a loner Huntsman spider still grieving his slain wife— leads a dangerous raid on a warehouse to capture his arch nemesis, the evil RED LOCUST. After a news conference proclaiming his victory, Sun rejects an offer by JANEY, a tiny orphan jumping spider. Janey’s dream is to be Sun’s apprentice. At the Port of Shanghai, Sun boards a human Pan Am Clipper seaplane heading to San Francisco. On the seaplane, Sun tries to enjoy his trip when Janey pops up in his cabin. SECURITY CHIEF SCARAB catches Janey. His policy is to throw her off, but Sun intervenes and is forced to pay Janey’s way. After dinner, wealthy doctor BUGSY SPINDLETHORP is found murdered. He was honeymooning with his wife ARABELLA, a black widow. Scarab and CAPTAIN SKELTON immediately suspect Arabella as the killer and take her to a holding cell. Janey is excited to help Sun solve the case. Inspector Sun will need to solve one more mystery. But what starts as just another case aboard the plane, will eventually decide the fate of all of humanity.

SYNOPSIS:

So-Young is a Korean single mother raising her adolescent son Dong-Hyun in the suburbs of Canada during the 90s. Determined to provide a better life for him than the one she left behind in her native country, she does her best to overcome the constant racial and cultural challenges that confront them. As Dong-Hyun gets older, he becomes increasingly curious about his Korean heritage and in particular, about his deceased father – a topic that So-Young refuses to address. Instead, she is set on continuing to build on her new life which now includes a relationship with a kind Korean-Canadian man who is eager to take on the role of Dong-Hyun’s surrogate father. This only exacerbates the tense relationship between her and Dong-Hyun. Then, sudden devastating news prompts the mother and son to return to South Korea for the first time since their initial departure with hopes of reconnecting to their roots and reconciling their tragic past.
