Synopsis:

DANI GIRL is the story of Dani, a precocious nine year-old who discovers that her paediatric leukaemia has returned. Accompanied by her socially awkward hospital roommate and imaginary guardian angel, she embarks on a magical quest to get back her beloved hair. As she battles Cancer across the realms of fantasy and reality, she unlocks mysteries of life, death, and the nature of hope.

Emerging director Carmen Glanville brings this heart-warming offbeat musical back to the Mina Parade Warehouse following its critically acclaimed 2010 debut season, featuring original cast members Heidi Enchelmaier as Dani, Juanita Ellis Gloster as Mother and Shaun Kohlman as Marty and welcoming Dash Kruck as Raph.

REVIEWS:

Amy Walduck: Opening night of Dani Girl was an absolutely delightful experience. A touching story that is dealt with lovingly and tastefully by up and coming Director Carmen Glanville and her engaging cast of four. Featuring some genuinely hilarious moments, charming vocal work and a clever set – this is a must see show. Well done to all involved.

Nerida Hart: Who would have thought that a musical about a young girl learning her leukemia has returned would have been what it was! DANI GIRL was just amazing. Sitting here the morning after the opening night at the Harvest Rain Theatre Company’s warehouse I am still in awe of the production. Coming into the evening I was expecting it to be quite a sombre, over emotional piece, but I am the first to willingly admit the opposite.

DANI GIRL struck me on so many notes that I cannot count them all. I found that I was deeply connected with each and every one of the four cast – I got drawn into Dani’s story, playing alongside her, her imaginary friend Raph, and her newfound friend for life Marty “Meriwether”. Not only are the cast to be commended for this, but the whole direction by Carmen Glanville brought the whole production together to make it was it was. I flipped between finding myself laughing out loud to trying to hold back the tears.

This production is only on for the next two nights – get out there and get yourself a ticket while you still can (its only $20!). Don’t let the fact that they are a “bunch of interns” put you off – I cannot speak highly enough about the professionalism and talent of the show! 5/5
